Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am a graduate of Princeton University, where I studied English and Creative Writing. I’ve been teaching professionally for the past 3 years and currently serve as a substitute teacher for the Department of Education. My tutoring experience began at Princeton, where I served as a teaching assistant for a summer enrichment program serving students in the Trenton area. I haven’t stopped teaching since! In addition to tutoring experience, I have a variety of professional teaching experiences. in 2015 I taught a year of second grade in the South Bronx. While there, I worked primarily with struggling readers on decoding and visualization skills. This resulted in a full year and a half of growth from my intervention students. From 2016-2017, I served as a ninth grade English teacher, piloting a pre-AP Seminar writing curriculum while also scoring the highest Interim Assessment scores across the network each quarter. During this time, I also served as a reading tutor for struggling high school readers and led small group instruction for AP Language.
As a tutor and teacher, I believe in inquiry-based learning and developing academic identities. Outside of teaching, I am an avid crossword puzzler and amateur baker (I just made an aquarium cake for a group of biology students!) I’m currently attempting to read one book from every country in the world.
